This Little Baby

This Little Baby

This song could be considered a song about the incarnation of Christ, but I hope that we can see more than merely “the Christmas story” that is appropriate for little kids during one season of the year. It is true that the Son of God was born of a virgin as prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 nearly 2000 years ago as a fact in history. But more than that, it is the spiritual reality that is affected in every genuine Christian that is born again, as described by Jesus in John 3:3. The fact is we need to be born of God by receiving Him and believing in His name (John 1:12-13), born with His life by simple faith in Christ. The inspiring hymn-writer A. B. Simpson succinctly states in one of his hymns: “Though Christ a thousand times in Bethlehem be born, if He's not born in thee, thy soul is still forlorn”, which points to the necessity of Christ's work being applied to your life. As this is the beginning of the Christian life, so it is with its continuation. The prayer in the chorus of this song is that for the Lord to give us eyes to see that everything we need for life and godliness is contained in Christ, that little Seed that was sown into our hearts — we simply need to let Him grow to maturity.

This Little Baby

1) Eternal Word of God, Partook of flesh and blood; In mercy, He came down, Laid aside His crown; Was born a little Babe, The lost He came to save.

2) He brought God down to man, To bring us back again, We're reconciled to Him, Fulfilled the Father's plan; God's answer to our fall: A Savior, weak and small.

Chorus Give us all eyes to see That all we'll ever need Out from this little Seed Sprouts life to set us free; This little Baby born Brings hope forevermore.

4) So Lord, be born in me, Bring to maturity All that You sow in me That all may know and see Your grace, Your love, Your life, The fruit of Jesus Christ.

5) O come, Emmanuel! With us, Lord, come to dwell, Make in our hearts Your home, And come to reign alone; You save us from our sins, Your presence now within.
