Old Man Haunting

Old Man Haunting

Perhaps you are like me and have tried to do the right thing and have sometimes failed (or, more like just about always!). In my experience, I feel like the old person that I was oftentimes seems to haunt me and gets in the way of me following the Lord. But praise God for His word! We are told in Romans 6:6 that our old man was crucified with Christ that the body of sin could be destroyed. It is a glorious fact that Christ died on the cross to accomplish redemption and make the way for us to be forgiven of our sins. Yet it is interesting that part of God's solution to sin is to crucify the old, sinful man I was with Christ, that I may have a new life in Christ to walk in freedom before Him. You may notice that this song has a melancholy feel initially, but with the bridge there is an introduction of a new hope and a positive turn occurs, which naturally flows back into the opening track of the album, Diving, as we turn away from ourselves and our failures, to look and wait on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, our Hope of Glory.

Old Man Haunting

1) Though I try, though I fight, though I want to do things right, I never seem to get it right; I fall away, seems everyday I can't but wander and stray, This song just seems to replay.

Chorus 1 I'm sorry I can't be Who I should be With this old man haunting me.

2) I feel so dark in my heart, I feel me breaking apart, I don't even know where to start; This world is black and I am trapped, there is no use in fighting back, With this old man breathing down my neck.

Bridge But at the cross where You died, I too was crucified; Brought to an end, this old man's dead, a new One's living instead: Amazing grace, You author faith, Your love is making a way, In hope I rise with new life in Jesus Christ; Lord, give me faith, You make a way, You set me free, Your life in me.

Chorus 2 You saved me And changed me, You freed me From the old man I used to be... This hope of glory just is Christ in me!
